Cape D
Days 5 - 9 (July 29 - August 2, 2021)
We spent the next five days enjoying ourselves at Cape Disappointment State Park.
We spent a lot of time doing various activities at the campsite. Monisha learned some ukulele, Bryce and Lexie set up a slack line for all to enjoy, and there were lots of great hacky sack circles along with some soccer juggling.
At one point the hacky sack got stuck in a nearby tree and Dylan came to the rescue with his climbing skills. However, there was a dead branch on the tree which broke and led to him falling around 12 feet to the ground. Luckily he was okay. This photo was taken moments before his fall:
In the evenings, we all gathered around a propane campfire (no wood burning due to the dry weather) to sing songs and talk. We also collectively created haikus and proverbs that addressed important philosophical topics such as when brown dogs have tails or tales.
Throughout our time at Cape Dis, our affection for Blue grew and grew. And the emergency car kit Maya gifted me has been incredibly useful! Again and again, somebody would want or need something, and Nolan and I would say, "Oh, we've got that in our car!" Gorilla tape came in handy several times to tape up boxes and shoes, superglue fixed up Nolan's flip flops and helped create our car curtains, our tarp was perfect to protect feet from the ground under the slack line, our cooking and eating implements served many, and on and on. We've also been loving sleeping in Blue! And, we were able to squeeze a few bodies on the bed for a very short trip to the bunker ;)
Over the course of the weekend, we did a lot of singing at the bunker, an abandoned WWII base that has the most amazing acoustics.
One evening we took a little spelunking trip to Salamander Cave. It was very cool, but also a bit creepy given the large spiders, cave crickets, and a gruesome faceless lizard (that was still alive, ask us for a picture if you want to see it, we didn't want to include one in this blog).
On Saturday, we all got together for a crab feast, with pasta and green wine galore!
We all dressed up in Hawaiian shirts for the occasion.
Overall it was an absolutely fantastic camping trip. So many fun activities, so many great people, and so many good memories made.
