Getting Started
We decided we want to bring back our traveling blog for this road trip! Our plan is to post a brief overview of what we've been up to for the past few days or week, with lots of pictures and fewer words. Sometimes, one of us might want to spend a bit more time writing about certain experiences in a journaling format. When we do this, we'll link to the journal entry in the relevant blog post. We hope you enjoy following along with our travels :)
Day 1 (July 25, 2021) [Journal entry by Monisha]
We hit the road in our Rav4 named Blue and drove a solid 7.5 hours to our first campsite of the trip.
The campsite is near Crater Lake, and is actually a winter sno park that is open year round. It was lovely, and free!
We cooked a dinner of Shin Ramen with broccoli and eggs.
After we finished dinner, a couple of fellow campers walked by and struck up a conversation. We ended up spending the rest of the evening with them, talking, listening to music that one of them produced, and sharing snacks.
Day 2 (July 26, 2021)
We drove over to Crater Lake! It was a bit smoky, which was sad, but we still had amazing views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
We drove around to the North side of the lake to the one trail that lets you hike down to the lake. It's very steep, which makes the way down much easier than the way up! Once we made it to the lake, we hiked to a spot for cliff jumping that Nolan remembered from a childhood road trip. It was quite scary standing at the edge, but the jump itself was exhilarating! The water was great for swimming and felt wonderful. It was also incredibly blue and clear.
We ate a lunch of cucumber, cream cheese, and tomato sandwiches, then headed back up the steep trail. Once we got back into Blue, we drove around 2 hours to Bend, Oregon where we will be spending the next couple of days.
For dinner, we hit up a brewery recommended by Courtney and Owen: 10 Barrel Brewing Co. We ordered a pizza and beers which really hit the spot.
Nolan before food :( |
Love this. Traveling vicariously is so much fun! I especially enjoyed the pics of Monisha jumping into Crater Lake. And from the before and after pics of Nolan, I'd say regular infusions of food are important!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear it's being enjoyed already! It's fun to have people following along with us :) Hah, yes can definitely attest to the importance of regular food infusions..
DeleteSO glad you’re doing the blog / journal. I loved following your Iceland - Norway - Greece and what-all trip, and I’m already loving this one, especially following on the collective travel-deprivation we’ve had.
ReplyDeleteMonisha, pls tell me you didn’t hit the water at the angle you seem to be at jumping off the cliff!
Esther
Aww yay! I’m happy we’re doing a blog too.
DeleteHahaha no I definitely did not hit the water at that angle. I don’t think I would have been able to wear a shirt for days if I had! It was high enough that there was plenty of time to get vertical :)
Ah y'all are glowing!!! Can't wait to hear more :)
